About the event

Want to paddle in Glen Canyon below the dam to Lees Ferry and camp along the river bank, about 1000 feet below the rim of the canyon?

Join us for this epic, 2 day/ 1-night paddling and camping adventure, for local teens and adults ages 12 and up, on the Colorado River in Glen Canyon below the dam to Lee's Ferry. Parents can join their teen on the trip or trust them to us. Teens will be supervised and guided at all times. Camp cost is $100 each to cover backhaul and food costs. Participants should have some previous paddling experience, but it is not required.

We will meet on Friday, June 16 at the Lees Ferry Launch ramp at 1:00pm AZ time to unload gear and boats, park vehicles in the overnight parking lot and be ready for the 2:00pm backhaul that will take all of us and our boats and gear up river. We have room to transport some people from Page to Lees Ferry, so contact us in advance if you want a ride.

We will be dropped off up river just below the dam, at about 3pm and then load our own gear on our kayaks, paddle boards, or canoes and start floating down river. We plan to camp at Ferry Swale Campsite, if there is room, which is about 4 miles below the dam.

The cost of this adventure is only $100 per person and includes all the food, use of our kayak or paddle board, and PFD. We have some tents available for teens who come without a parent,  if needed.

Each person needs to bring there own clothes, sleeping bag,  personal items, tent (or sleep under the stars), dry bags (or a way to keep your things dry, like douple trash bags) and at least 2 gallons of drinking water. There will be 11 miles to float and paddle on Saturday, which can be done in about 5 hours without stops, but we will be stopping and enjoying some side hikes on the way down river.

Some of the skills and experiences the teens and adults will be exposed to:

  • Water recreation safety
  • Paddling safety and basic paddling skills
  • Fire starting and fire safety
  • Leave No Trace outdoor adventure principles
  • Basic camping skills
  • Introduction to outdoor cooking
  • River float trip with river ecology and natural history

Some scholarships are available for teens that pay half of the cost of $50. Email us at info@wildcanyon.org for more information about the scholarships or if you have questions about this camping adventure. There are 10 spaces available, so sign up now to reserve your spot!

After registering and paying for the program, we will send you an information packet with more details and a suggested packing list.

If you have any question, please email us at info@wildcanyon.org or call us at 928-660-9107.
