About the event

Join us for this epic, 2 day/ 1-night Colorado River Teen Stewardship Camp with river floating for local youth ages 12-17 years old. This program will be on the Colorado River in Glen Canyon in the area just below the dam to Lee's Ferry. Teens will be supervised and guided at all times. Camp cost is $150 each to cover backhaul and food costs. Participants should have some previous paddling experience, but it is not required.

We will pick up teen in Page, AZ and tranport them to Lees Ferry on the morning of June 18.  We will be getting a backhaul or boat tax ride upriver from Lees Ferry, at noon from Kayak Horseshoe Bend, with all of our boats and camping gear. We will be dropped off up river just below the dam, at about 1pm and then load our own gear on our kayaks, paddle boards, or canoes and start floating down river. We plan to camp at Ferry Swale Campsite, if there is room, which is about 4 miles below the dam.

The cost of this adventure is only $150 per person and includes all the food, use of our kayak or paddle board, and PFD. We have some tents available for teens,  if needed.

Each person needs to bring there own clothes, sleeping bag,  personal items, tent (or sleep under the stars), dry bags (or a way to keep your things dry, like douple trash bags) and at least 2 gallons of drinking water. There will be 11 miles to float and paddle on Wednesday, which can be done in about 5 hours without stops, but we will be stopping and enjoying some side hikes on the way down river.

Some of the skills and experiences the teens and adults will be exposed to:

  • Leave No Trace outdoor adventure principles
  • River float trip with river ecology and natural history
  • Basic camping skills
  • Introduction to outdoor cooking
  • Fire starting and fire safety
  • Water recreation safety
  • Paddling safety and basic paddling skills

Some scholarships are available for teens that pay half of the cost of $75. Email us at info@wildcanyon.org for more information about the scholarships or if you have questions about this camping adventure. There are 9 spaces available, so sign up now to reserve your spot!

After registering and paying for the program, we will send you an information packet with more details and a suggested packing list.
